O'Sullivan Davies Lawyers
O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers is proudly leading an education session on family violence on 21 August 2019,
teaching lawyers how to best work with their clients and with the police.
Hosted in the boardroom at O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers, about 30 of Perth’s leading family lawyers and
barristers have been invited to the firm.
“This information is vitally important, so we extended an invitation to our colleagues in other firms to educate
us all on how best to deal with victims,” says O’Sullivan Davies Consultant Nicola Watts.
From the WA Police Family Violence Unit, Sergeant Sally Warner will present the legislative obligations in
responding to family violence and the work of her unit.
WA Police director of criminology, Dr Geoffrey Barnes, will speak about the criminology side of family violence.
As stated by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, family violence is widespread across the population with one
woman per week murdered by her current or former partner on average, and almost forty per cent of women
continued to experience violence from their partner while temporarily separated. Further, one in four women
have experienced emotional abuse by current or former partner since the age of 15, and one in five women have
experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.
This event will provide an opportunity to discuss and learn best practice when acting on behalf of clients who are
the subject of family violence when dealing with the police.
For the seventh consecutive year, O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers has been listed as a First Tier Firm in the 2019
Doyle’s Guide for Western Australian Family Law rankings.
